The kid sister called to say her laptop (well out of warranty) had stopped charging and then stopped turning on. A visit later, and I've at least got it powering up but I'm baffled as to how and why.
* Laptop refused to power up at all when I first arrived.
* Charger shows green light, so shouldn't be dead.
* Charger does however feel slightly loose in socket, so possibly socket needs replacing.
* Taking battery out and powering direct from mains failed.
* Taking battery out, unplugging and holding power button down for 45 seconds failed.
* Taking it all apart for a look reveals nothing looks obviously physically wrong at first look.
* However, blowing out dust, reinserting battery and plugging in.. lets it power up.
* Battery light is now flashing, battery is stuck at 0%. I would suspect a dead battery.
* Except when I unplug for two minutes to move through to the kitchen, it stays on.
Current theory is "laptop is running on love" but I'd prefer a more concrete theory. Any ideas?
