Has my girlfriend been scammed? (Vodafone fake?)

Hi there.
My girlfriend is currently in new zealand. She received a text from a load of random numbers (not "Vodafone" as usual) saying she had to call a certain number to verify herself or she'll be cut off (the contract was about 3 weeks old and first payment due soon).
The number she was told to ring was 0870 from the uk and 0121 from abroad. As shes in new zealand she called the 0121 number..
It was a very nice woman apparently, and as her phone bill was large and she was young they said they need to verify her bank details and pay that way for first time to prove she can pay.
The woman asked for my girlfriends number and then password as the usual vodafone people do, and then asked for her bank details.
Now what i find is AWFUL abotu this, IF it is vodafone of course is that anyone can say "ye thats correct passowrd, now what's your bank details?" without having a computer in front of them!
Does anyone have any idea of similar things and whether she's been scammed? I assume she'll be insured if it is...

Could this be a scam playing on that though? The text she received didnt say it was from "Vodafone" like all vodafone texts....[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

did she get asked for the 3 digits from the back of her card? if so cancel it now i have heard of scams like this before her bank are the best people to inform as they can track any changes on her accountsave money, spend someone else's0

Most places where you pay over the phone ask for those 3 digits.. I work in tele sales and we ask customers for it simply for security reasons. I dont know if they asked her though (its midnight in new zealand atm so cant talk to her for another 9 hours)[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

the only thing that concerns me is surely she had set up a direct debit? so why would they want her card details againsave money, spend someone else's0 -
Well if i had got a text like that i would have rang Vodaphone using one of there published numbers rather than one in a text, i would ring Vodaphone ASAP using a number on there site..........

You could always give the incorrect password when asked and see if they say, sorry, that isnt your password, and then give the correct one.0
