The other day when I was in Sheffield my Blackberry GPRS thing was replaced by EDGE (in the top right hand corner) but has now reverted to GPRS again.
I'm not sure what happened, was it good, bad or weird?

EDGE has a significantly faster data transfer speed than GPRS so in that respect it's good if you're browsing the net.
Which connection you get depends on location & signal strength, I think!
I'm open to being educated though if I'm wrong

as said it just depends on your network where you are0

In this case, significantly meaning very little.;)
EDGE is only an updated version of GPRS, so only offers slight benefits. The 3G network would offer significant speed increases; in this case, significant meaning lots!
As mentioned, it all depends on what phone mast you're connected too, and how much the equipment has been upgraded.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

If 5x greater speeds are considered 'very little' you might consider that you are right. I however, do not.

The thing is 5x somthing very small can still be very small.
Say I have 1p if you times it by 5 you will still only have 5p.
Now I only ever got 5kbps off grps, so your significent increase is still only 20bbps under perfectly optimal conditions.0 -

A 5x increase is significant however you want to measure it don't you think?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Wrong again. I'm using EDGE to connect to the Internet now, whilst I'm on the beach.
It is not so long ago when the connection speed I am using now was considered 'broadband'.
Surfing, as long as I'm not doing loading a large amount of pictures at the same time, is not impaired.
I can download at speeds of 20kB/s as opposed to about 4kB/s for GPRS.
That is a significant increase.
As for "acceptable speed"...remember we are talking about a Blackberry.0
