Lounge is probably best - but I would suggest the trick is not to keep moving it, as that'll confuse the optimum start calculations.

I have had to move it to a different position in the lounge so far - woke up yesterday morning to find heating was not on despite controller calling for it to be on - target temp was 21C and room temp was only 17C.

Even going outside with controller to boiler (in garage) wouldn't bring it on. Had to switch off controller and back on again for it to start.

Not sure if it's communication problem - although no red led on relay box.

As yet I haven't turned on the optimum start.

Do you know if this only works for the morning start up time or does it work with the evening time too?
If it's like the WarmWorld Dataterm programmer, www.warmworld.co.uk, which I've had for well over ten years, it works with all 'set points' (which may be an increase in temperature or a decrease).

It's saved me hundreds of pounds in the time I've had it.

    It seems similar.

Certainly I have noticed the last couple of evenings that as it has got close to its target temp it has switched off the heating and back on again to maintain the 21.5C it's set to.

What do you find your optimum temperature settings are?
  • Hi I too have one of these. Had it 2 years now. Mine is in the front hallway. I just set it to 18 C(at 5.30am) for during the day (in most of time) and 17 (from 9.30pm) at night Then the thermostat decides when to turn boiler on and off keeping house at constant temperature. Having never had a thermostat before I was worried about cost as before I would only put the heating on for say 2 hour morning and 3 hours evening, and if we were cold put it on during day. But now because thermostat keeps house at constant temperature I have halved my gas heating consumption compared to the previous years. Even with this cold winter I am still using less gas as the boiler just cuts in and out rather than the house cooling right down and taking longer to then warm up again.
Wouldn't be without it, although I would turn it down if we go away for a week or two.

The temperature in the hall will vary enormously depending on how you have your hall radiator set up and will have little or no relationship to the temperature in the rest of the house.

I have mine at 19°C initially but rising to 20° in the evening. Overnight it goes down to 12° - letting the house cool down at night saves an enormous amount of energy, as it is only wasted otherwise. 12° is the recommended temperature, lower than that and you could, theoretically, risk pipes freezing if there was a very cold snap, though in practice it hardly ever drops below about 16°. The device then makes sure it is back up to the right temperature by whatever time you set for the morning.
