Part-time extra money jobs?

We're trying to pay off our debts by March 2007, which is when my current contract comes to an end and may not be renewed!

To help, I'm looking at maybe getting some extra work and I had a Virgin Vie Party last night! I can join just for christmas for £60! I've done Ann Summers before so I know I can do sales but wondering whether I can fit it in with everything else!

I currently work full-time and do an evening class on a Thursday night! I've also signed up to do 3 course from Sept-Dec which will result in 5 assignments a month, aswell as cake decorating which I have about 2 cakes a month to do, plus with christmas I may have more!

Can I realistically fit Virgin Vie in!? Any other ideas for other ways of making some extra money - about £50-100 a month?!

DEBT FREE for the first time in 10 years and with savings!

Will Avon work for you? You could try and sell it at work? I've not tried it but I am interested. How about selling cards at work? A colleague does this through Phoenix Trading and it seems to be popular, esp. when colleagues forget birthdays and know they can buy one immediately!

Let us know how you get on!

  • You could do mystery shopping and do these during your lunch hour at work. Hope this helps.

I've tried AVON and really did sell much! used to make £35 every 6 weeks across 230 house visits!

I work in an office of 5 people and most "hippies" so selling at work is a no no! I've going out in 30minutes to do my first 2 mystery shopping trips! (wish me luck)

I suppose I could be a Vigin Angel - which means I sell from the catalogue, but don't make as much money!

not got much left to sell on ebay :o think I've exhausted all avenues and maybe my only option is to step up the cake decorating stuff more! But I don't want to make it into a taxable business just yet! I usually tell people how much it cost to make and they give me £5-10 extra as a thank you!

maybe I need to step this up a little bit and charge £25-35 for a cake instead of £15-20 I normally get! problem being it's mostly friends and family!

Certainly you should do this and get over the guilt. Putting food on your table is not something to feel guilty about. Consider the friends and family as a test if you like. They got a bargain - you know it and they know it. In return they need to help you now by putting the word about.

If you continue to charge overly low prices people will take advantage of you and you'll resent it and may even stop what is a real talent.

Added to that is a bizarre psychology in that for something requiring the sort of skill that this takes, people get a bit suspicous if something appears too cheap to be true and therefore are put off by it

If you've got a purely business head on this work needs to not only pay for your future, but recoup the cost of your course fees and I'll bet the books with the various designs in have cost a packet as well.

Can I suggest something else as well? Look on your course for the others with a bit of talent and get to know them, get telephone numbers etc. That way if you market yourself better than they do you'll get more referals but what you do is outsource some of the work to them, pay them a going rate but you add a bit of markup on your price to your customer.

By doing this you get to increase the capacity of the number of customers you can handle because your outsourcing work, plus you're making some money for work you haven't done. This is called Passive Income. This is how the rich do it.

    Good luck

Hi I work for Likisma who provide beauty and aromatherapy goods. I joined not only to earn money (desperately need £20,000 plus outstanding) but to have an interest and life outside my everyday work (couldn't afford to go out and kept working late to get some extra). I have been doing it for three months and do not do lots of parties as this is to time consuming so I sell to people at work, at college and through friends, offering discounts when ok to do so. I have earned over £300 in 12 weeks by having four parties and rest sales through others. Also I have received a £20 cheque for goods which I shall use for my Christmas presents and £150 oils, so I am well chuffed. You can payout for a kit or not depends on whether you want to pay £85, £10 or 0 to start with. If you want to know more let me know. Oh, one more thing, no sorting goods if you have a party - so time saving! I know people in our team have earned well over £1,000 in their first three months but perhaps I am being a but lazy not doing so many parties. I think Avon and Kleeneze are good but I found them really time consuming which is why I gave up. Good Luck.

You sound as though you've already got a lot to do so how about something that you do alongside your other commitments.

You could look into selling products that relate to your cake decorating or courses so you've already got some potential customers/party venues.

So if you do cakes for kids birthdays then Usborne books or a kids toy catalogue could work. For wedding cakes then cosmetics and skin care would go together. Sorry I don't know what type of cakes you do so this might not be relevant to you.
