I would say that a lot of them are Stevie. M & S have always been renowned for treating their staff really well.
I did my work experience there back in 1986. The staff that worked there really appreciated their jobs and said they got paid more than they would in other similar companies. They had free chiropody, subsidised hairdressers, lovely facilities for getting changed into their uniforms with showers and M and S smellies, a really good staff canteen.
So yeah, I would say they probably have plenty of staff on 20k plus. Even Sainsburys - I know an 18 year old who is training to be a manager and he is on almost that amount already.0 -

So all (or even most) the M&S employees are paid more than £20k pa?
I'm merely illustrating the point. As obviously have no access to M&S detailed info. Just what can be gleaned from Company accounts.
People love big headline numbers.
Looking at it another way on its headcount M&S generated £8,028 in pre tax profit per employee head. ( Employee head being number of full time equivalents).0 -

What has that got to do with the NI increase for anyone paid over £20k? or even the price of fish.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Darling refuses to publish advice on the NI increase.

Osborne pwns Darling.
Osborne challenged Darling to publish an internal Treasury document on the employment impact of the national insurance increase. Darling said he did not want to publish it because "you have to look at a budget in the round". He said he expected unemployment to continue to fall. But Osborne did not give up.Osborne: Why are you hiding this advice?
Darling: I'm not hiding it.
Osborne: Then publish it."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

Hot air. So how are the Tories going to raise revenue? Through pay freezes and redundancies in the pubic sector, that's why. And VAT will rise as well.
By not taxing jobs there will be more people actually in work and paying tax so the policy doesnt actually cost £6bn. Its about time we had well thought out tax policies and set taxes at levels that bring in the optimum level of tax.
It is similar to the simplification and reduction of top rate income tax in the 1980s. When it was lowered the amount raised increased but labour, out of spite and envy was bitterly opposed to it.0 -

Employers NIC is a tax on jobs. Shortly be 13.8%.
Tax profit higher maybe, not burden Companies with increased costs.
You were pointing out how the increase in NI costs feeds through to the P&l of M&S, I pointed out this wouldn't happen when a large proportion of their workforce is relatively low paid.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Employers National insurance is being increased by 1% across the board in 2011.
Has no relevance to whether an employee is low paid or not.
Employees NIC is what you are referring to.0
