Guttering

Just had scaffolding taken down and the company has broken the guttering.
Now I had problems when they broke some ornate window trim when they first put the scaffolding up and did'nt want to know, totally denied it so I'm just going to get the guttering repaired myself and put it down to experience.
I'm going to have to have a length of about 20ft replaced as it's chipped at different places.
Just wondering what to reasonably expect to pay for the job as I have no idea.

Plastic guttering (if it's that) is cheap as chips, the cost might be in getting access to it.

It's plastic at the moment (back of the house) but it's a period property and the front of the house still has the original cast iron.
I don't know whether to try and get some replacement cast iron instead of the plastic,or will this be hard to get.
I was wondering what I should expect to pay for the labour costs to have the guttering replaced as I have no idea what I should be paying and they could quote me anything and I would'nt be any the wiser.
    Thanks.

Replacing it all at the back in cast iron can be done, but very much more expensive, price depends on the length of guttering and downpipe required and the ease (or not) of access.

Would there be any advantage in replacing it with cast iron or is plastic just as good.
Sorry but I know nothing about guttering.

Plastic will do the job and requires less maintenance. But only cast iron will maintain the period appearance.

are you in a conservation area? if you are then you might not be allowed to change the cast iron for plastic guttering.

if you are not in a conservation area i would just go for plastic.

It's already in plastic-and on the rear elevation. I don't know of any conservation area regs that would prevent replacing it in plastic.

Use plastic, cheap easy to put up and you are replacing plastic anyway. As for cost, if you were my next door neighbour say I would do it for a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea........ If the brackets are still up its a 20 minute job. Good luck

PS I changed the old cast on a 7 bedroom gorgeous house in my area a couple of years ago to plastic and to be perfectly honest asthetically the new stuff just "lifted" the look of the whole house. Good luck.....
