Life insurance for a worker in Iraq

Hello,

I hope all you guys are well. I am currently working in Iraq. The company I work for has a life and injury insurance policy which we all take out. This covers me for in country and at home with accident cover also.
My question is it seems insurance firms dont want to cover me for critical illness in the UK. I understand that I am out of the UK maybe 6-8 months a year and I am happy to pay the premium for 12 months and only have the cover for 3-4 months whislt I am in the UK. Once I leave UK it does not cover me (This is what my collegues say they have and happens to them). Can anyone help me with this? Obviously I dont want to pay an arm and a leg. I just want to make sure my gf and children are covered in any eventuality. However is it correct that you are only allowed one policy for life cover? Does this apply to critial care or injury cover.

Thanks
Mick

No you can have multiple policies with no issues.

Thats not a bad scheme, I have seen others that only cover you in country with no UK cover.

Whether you are happy to pay premiums or not doesn't come into it...

You have your work location working against you and also that you are out of the country most of the year.

More likely they have an existing policy which has exclusions in place for overseas work.

Just a question but are you ex forces? If so you are entitled to be a member of the PAX scheme and it has LIMITED critical illness cover and lots of accident benefits. That said it is a temporary insurance which can be subject to change unlike term insurance however in the circumstances it may be your only option.

I have been also trying to get cover, I work outside the UK for 8 months of the year and in lots of different countries, havent managed to get any yet, but if i do, ill let you know who.
From my previous application they didnt like the time away or the countries i was visiting, i dont think they will like Iraq much either!

    Thanks guys,

Stephenni - I am ex forces, I had PAX for years to cover me and my family. I will look into that but I have never heared good stories ref their payouts when I was in the Army. Yes my work insurance is a fantastic scheme to cover both work and home in the UK. As I have said I am happy to pay the 12 month installments even if they are only valid for 3-4 of thoses months. However insurance companies been as they are I wonder if they would argue the fact??? I think I may have to stick with the work one.

  • Have you tried a company called Pulse Insurance? They can't help with Critical Illness unfortunately though, sorry, but they can cover places such as Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya etc... for Life Insurance. I've heard PAX are good for Armed Forces, but Pulse help with contractors, private security, off shore workers (oil rigs etc...)

Again - Pulse Insurance cover expats and pepes spending more than the norm outside of the UK....
