06/03/10 i bought a 46" lcd tv, today i realised it had developed a fault on the hdmi connections, i phoned samsung who talked me through the problem and they told me to take it back to store. i took it back to store and the store manager told me they would have to get an engineer to look at it which i said fine, then he told me the engineer would be able to come out on wednesday, to which i told him that was not acceptable as the tv was less than 28 days old and i would like a replacement which he refused and i ended up phoning head office and they told me that any product over 72hours old would need an engineer to assess wether the product was faulty which they do not tell you when buying and is not displayed in store. i ended up dumping the tv instore and told the manager i would tell all instore what rubbish their polices are and should be displayed instore. i ended up walking away with a replacement after 20mins.
the moral of this thread is don't buy from comet.

Quite surprised they don't exchange on the spot. Did Samsung give you an uplift/exchange auth number?
That said, we have some manufacturers that refuse to exchange outside the first 24 hours from delivery without having an engineer go out to confirm the fault. It's fricking annoying...they're usually the ones who won't issue an authority after it's been exchanged and won't repair instore, eitherSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

HI
My son had a similar problem with Comet. When unwrapped his washer/dryer had a dent and scratch. He was told to return it to store within 72 hours and they would look at it and then decide whether to replace.
The problem is he lives in a block of flats and had help to get it but has no help to return it. Comet said they would throw in free delivery of the new machine but wouldn't take the old one away at the same time. They insisted on seeing it in store more than 20 miles away.
I pointed out the Sale of Goods Act states up to 6 years not 72 hours and he got all snotty with me and said he knew his clients rights and the rights of the store!
In the end my DS returned it to the store and then they told him they couldn't deliver a new one for 3 weeks! He got his money back, went across the road to Currys and bought the same machine to be delivered within 2 days.
Comet have now lost his trade for life. If they had been more reasonable he could have been a customer for 40 or so years.
I am not saying currys would have been any different but these large stores annoy me when they flout the SOGA, con people into warranties and then insist on an engineers report when the items don't work. It gets my goat!!The Cabbage

Shocking stories of Comet there.
I had a bad experience of Comet this week. I phoned their telesales number and asked if they would price match a Belling 335 cooker. Argos had it for £198 that day and Comet were £319. The reason I asked is Comet charge £45 to connect, whereas Argos was £75. Although I never mentioned anything about installation during the call. The operator took the argos catalogue number and came back and said, "no we can't price match that, the Argos webiste says home delivery within 5 days, we only price match things that are for immediate delivery" The price promise is a total con. I said well if you charge £121 more than someone else for the same thing, no wonder you can delivery faster!
So that is me put off Comet now. Rubbish service it seems when have spent money with them. And rubbish service when you try to spend money with them.0 -
For the price match to work the competing retailer must have the item in stock, I though this was quite clear. A delivery estimate of 5 days means the item wasn't in stock, therefore no pricematch. You may be disappointed but it's definitely no con!
Also, if you look again you'll find Comet now selling the cooker for £219 with free delivery.0 -
Yes Comet seems to be cropping up alot on here , i wont be buying from them.
I did make quite a bit of money out of them with the discount codes at xmas tho :rotfl:0 -

Hi. Argos don't hold stock of cooker's at their stores. They come from a distribution centre. After inputting my postcode on the Argos website and proceeding to buy, it was delivered to me within 48 hours. The 5 days was just that - an estimate. I can't seem to find many white goods on Argos.co.uk that do not say home delivery withing 5 days. So Comet will never price match with Argos then? Completely empty promise in my opinion.0 -
Yep i agree just a way of Comet wriggling out of it0
