Hi
I am looking into getting a first credit card in order to build my credit rating. I applied within the last year for a credit card with abbey my bank and was rejected. I am a student full time however work 16 hours a week as well. I have no debts and the only credit associated thing I have had is my contract mobile in which I have never missed a payment. I am also a named cardholder on my partners credit card as well not sure if that makes any difference. I am 21 and would plan on spending on the credit card (to get rating up) but pay it of fully on first statements. Any advice on which card to get would be very grateful.
Thanks
Cassie

Being a named cardholder will make no difference. You won't be able to get a credit card with prime lenders so you best place to start with would be with either Vanquis, Capital One or Barclaycard initial. The interest are very high but if you're planning to pay balance in full each month then that is fine. Just make sure you are on electoral roll. If declined again, then you may want to try a catalogue account, run it for 6 months & try again applying for a credit card0 -
Thanks I looked at capital one as I have heard they are one of the best to try with. Would you just go for the basic classic credit card?Me £380.00 Partner £317.48

Yes that's the one, if you get decline you still could try with Vanquis. Having a couple of searches on your file will have little impact after 6 months0
