As long as your partner has his own residence and all his credit is at his own address then there is no set number of nights he can stay. Just because your on benefits gives no one the right to say you can't have a life!

its unfair to suggest that they cant have a private life though as a few others on here have suggested ('their own personal opinions' i might add) As long as they dont flout the law.

Who has said they can't have a private life? I thought we were talking about staying overnight? It is not necessary for anyone to stay overnight if they are not your partner, as is the case if you are claiming for single person Benefits..

You can still do whatever you like at other times, doesn't have to be at night or dark, does it?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

If they have a partner they should not be claiming as a single person.

It has been recommended to the OP that they phone their local benefits office and put the situation to them, as only they can make a final decision. Would the OP want everybody's bits of information which they 'think' to be correct, and then go with what they want to hear, and then blame the forum's advice when they get investigated and done for fraud? The OP has already been advised the best steps to take.

There is NO defined number of nights - it comes down to life with the other person and what they do together. When someone describes another as their 'partner', it's normal to assume that they are all but married.....and wondering how many nights playing family they can get away with without it costing anybody any loss in benefits.

If the OP referred to the person as 'I've just met someone and he's started to stay over the odd night'.......would come across a whole lot different than 'partner'. Do they eat meals together, do they do family activities together, do they grocery shop together, does the OP buy things into the house for the use of the partner......there's so much that comes into the final decision - but better she find out now than later. Or better still, don't play family till you're ready to make the commitment - including a financial one.
