power saving mode

Hi

My computer has started to turn itself off after a short time of inactivity...a message comes up that states Analogue Power Saving Mode

Is there any way of turning this power saving mode off? I run XP

Start>control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > set the options to 'never' or whatever duration you prefer.

The message is probably being generated by the monitor, telling you that the PC is turning off the monitor to save power.

To disable this, right-click the desktop, choose Properties, Screen Saver, Power and change the power scheme so that it does not turn off the monitor after a pre-set time.

Think I may have to get a new computer...15 minutes in to any video and it goes into power sharing mode...oh well I've had it 5 years

Have you checked that there is no screensaver set? If the screensaver is set as a blank screen then the monitor will automatically go into power saving mode.

It's a strange one - never seen anything like that.

A couple more things to try:

If you set Power Options to turn off the monitor after 5 hours, does it still turn off after 15 mins?

One possibility is that a Windows Update (or some other change) has messed with the graphics driver. Can you try a System Restore to a restore point dated before it started misbehaving?

One other thought: As mentioned earlier, the "power saving mode" is generated by the monitor, not the PC. Have you looked through all the options in the monitor's OSD to make sure it does not have it's own power-down timer? I think that's very unlikely, as I've never seen that option on any monitor before...

Are you connected using an Analogue (Blue plugs) or Digital (white plugs) connection?

If you are connected via a digital connection, and this comes up, it looks like the monitor is switching itself from digital to analogue, then you get the power save messsage.

I get something like this when I manuyally switch to analogue on my monitor.

fwor..I set it to 5 hours and watched iplayer and it didn't turn off.....hopefully you may have solved my problem...however I watched it in small screen...I'll try big screen today to see if that makes a difference...Thanks again
