Lost Log Book

I have had the misfortune to lose my log book and need the same to tax my vehicle.

The DVLA want to charge £25 for a replacement and i was wondering if there was a way round this charge.

I had in mind the possibility of getting a friend to register the vehicle in his name and, when he receives the new log book, transfering the vehicle back to me.

Is this possible??

Many thanks.

Even if you got friend to register it, he would not be able to tax it without the new Owner part of the V5C.

Why not tax it on line?? In fact why do you need the V5C to tax it??

The problem is that the vehicle has been off road and sorned for over a month.

Neither the post office or the DVLA online service will allow me to tax it without the log book as the current reminder, V11, is out of date according to them.

They bug gers hae thought of that, they've changed it so if you buy a new car you can't get a free logbook unless you have the old logbook or as a minimum the little tear off buyers bit of the bottom of the old logbook

    Thx for help ppl.

Suspected they would find a way of screwing the £25 out of me. I'll ask for an itemised breakdown as to how the £25 is made up...........lol

By saving 25 quid, you will also be adding 2 more owners to the car, which makes it less sesireable to someone.

Also, the £25 fee is the same as a £60 speeding fine: it teaches you a lesson to be more cardful in the future.

Totally agree - adding 2 owners to save £25 which is the charge for being a careless !!!! in the first place - PMSL.

it would take longer if your friend tried, as DVLA will have to write to you first to confirm you are no longer the registered keeper...should get a new one fairly quick if you already are the registered keeper.
Unfortunately you will have to pay up...
 Am thinking of a new one:beer:

Your friend will then have to pay the £25 fee for a new logbook. Dont buy a car without the logbook unless your willing to pay the fee, Even if you know the vehicle is legit.

    You will still get charged.
