I think its because Fairyhouse is on on Monday and Tuesday, you can't have racing on Good Friday.

This change came about in the late 70's, but I can't remember why (cos I'm old ;) ) Think it was a government decision to make savings - somehow a full week and a 3 day week is cheaper than two 4 day weeks.

The Orange Order marches on Easter Tuesday, so it's for the same reason as our other holiday in July. This originally started to counter the Republican parades the day before commemorating the Easter Rising of 1916.

Not sure what you mean. First post on this forum so it's kind of hard not to use a new ID. Not a very exciting answer to the Easter Tuesday question, but unfortunately I can't help that.

FWIW in my office I let people choose if they want to take Friday & Monday or Monday & Tuesday. It's generally about half and half which is great. Means the office is only closed for one day. Last year I took Fri/Mon and this year I'm taking all of Easter week off so I'm in work now. Err, not sure what else you want me to say to make it less sad to be honest.

    Welcome on board Funar.

Give it time, you'll soon get as cynical as the rest of us after a few months on the MSE Forums :rotfl:

in response to your reply... it wouldn't supprise me in the slightest if that is the real reason..... good old Norn Iron Politics!!
