I know this is not moneysaving but not sure where else to ask this question.

Why is Easter Tuesday a public holiday instead of Good Friday in Northern Ireland?

Thanks

It's a good question that no-one I know can answer! My hubby is English and can't understand why we take the Tuesday instead of Good Friday especially as when you look at normal calendars, Tuesday isn't even listed as Easter Tuesday. Think I'd prefer 2 short weeks instead of one 3 day week but I'm not complaining when it means 2 days off :j

Lots of people still have Friday and Monday. I do,
Nice for me because i only work normally Wed, Thursday and Friday, so i am
getting a bank holiday off, i dont get the benefit of any Bank Holiday Mondays,.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    I don't know the answer.

On the other hand, in the 1960s and '70s in the Midlands, I worked in car manufacturing and construction companies which worked on Good Fridays and closed on Easter Tuesdays. I think it was easier for factory shutdowns.

And Easter Tuesday is the correct name for the first Tuesday after Easter Day (not Easter Sunday). And Easter Saturday is not the Saturday before Easter but the one after (whatever the shops might try to say).

Do you live in N.Ireland? It is very unusual to have Good Friday off here.

I googled it for hours but cant find anything.
It could be because the Belfast blitz happened on Easter Tuesday.

I don't know the reason for it either. I worked in London for yonks and yonks, so was most surprised when I had to work Good Friday as if it were a normal day. Maybe some companies have decided to observe Good Friday on the grounds that if they keep in sync with GB then they will not lose a trading day by being closed on Easter Tuesday.
