npower energy moniter

Has anybody any idea how to get the free energy moniter from npower, other than going online?
my elderly parents were sent info in the mail offering a free energy moniter to customers. As my parents are elderly and would find one useful ,they are always trying to save every penny, They phoned the number on the letter but were they were told they have to go online to get one.It seems that this offer is only avaible if you have computer acess. Many oap's are fearful of computers , so the people that could really use one are denied this seems unfair.

Why don't you go online for them?

My brother doesn't have internet access at home, he doesn't even have a computer, so I have all his details and I manage his fuel bills for him.

Just because they don't have a computer at home doesn't mean they can't take advantage of on-line billing and tariffs.

I have an energy monitor from Southern Electric and it's brilliant(only had it 3 days and I have already managed to get the kids to have 5 minute showers instead of 30 minute showers just because they could SEE the difference it made in electricity consumption).I would go online for them :)

    Hi

Just register your parents details on Npowers website/mynpower. Under welcome/Start using my npower it says:

To request a FREE smartpower electricity monitor, set up paperless billing, or activate other smartpower options, simply add or edit your account details now.

You can just edit the account details. That's what I did. (I already have paperless billing)

  • I would go online for them but there is no way they would give me their details, as for paperless billing that would be unthinkable, they keep everything private like many oap's .

I'm an OAP and if I thought I could save a few bob by giving someone a meter reading every month then I would do it, in fact thats what my brother does.

I might have his bank account details for his fuel bills and know how much gas and electricity he uses but I don't have access to his bank account or even know how much he has in his bank account.

No one is that proud and private about how much gas and electricity they use to save some money, are they?

  • I think the whole thing about not going online because of a certain situation is a misnomer these days. Perhaps 15 years ago when e-commerce was still in its infancy maybe, but today I doubt the majority of people would take a bank account if it did not allow you to manage it online for instance.

It is almost like when the gas showrooms closed and people yelled about not managing on the phone. Everyone got around it though one way or another. If they really want this device, the OP needs to go online. If the OP is unwilling or unable to go online, resign them to not having it.

Please don't play the online discrimination card though.

Exactly, there are plenty of OAPs who manage online, even some who are going slightly batty like me.

  • Ha, you make me laugh Stan :rotfl:

This is what i mean though, I think some people who play that card are patronising older people who are clearly quite capable.

I've got one of the energy monitors (got it via a staff offer at work - our company does work for npower) and it's great. I have it upstairs and I can put the kettle on downstairs, come back upstairs, and see when the kettle has finished boiling by the fact the energy use goes right down! And yes the shower does use quite a bit I think! I was curious to know how much the tumble dryer uses, I'll be able to see this now!
