How to change my IP address

I've recently D/L from Rapidshare, all was going well, for a week or so, well, it was until today, weekends and evenings only. Today is the first time with Virgin that "someone else on my IP address is already downloading", which is really annoying. Today was also the first daytime weekday D/L. Assuming I find this becomes a problem even on weekends and evenings......

Can I switch my IP address? Easily? Without using a proxy unless it is a fast free & legal proxy

  • Switch your router on and off. It should assign you a new IP automatically.

    reboot your modem/router

that might give you a new IP address, if the virgin servers issue you with a new one (which will have been used by someone else previously)

It generally does work with Virgin.

It's solved, the problem was the file on the RS server, has some sort of a bug, causing it to constantly give error messages - unable to download, session expired/ IP already downloading etc

But just now it connected and is downloading with an "unknown filesize" it is also DL at superfast 325kb/s instead of the usual 130 - 200 kb that RS always gives me :)

Also unbelievably (and seemingly impossibly) this file seemed to keep different rapidshare user records from other files, for example I had 12 mins "to wait" on this file but when I tried to DL a different file RS said I only had 5mins to wait. And on this file RS is identifying my IP always with the same IP no. but it is a different IP no. from all other rapidshare links which I have open simultaneously - all the other files have same (my correct) IP no. Which sounds impossible doesn't it, but that is what is happening weird.... Anyway, luckily I got the file, it's as though somehow RS has confused me with another user for that particular file link only.

That happens to me occasionally with Rapidshare. As you later write it is a problem at their end rather than your end and usually gets resolved.

I just try again later that day or the next day and can then usually download the file.
