please help with gas bill

hi i move in to my property on the 23/11/2009 and gave npower a meter reading of 3649 and on the 22/3/2010 and gave them another reading of 4165 and i am a single man so i didnt have my heating on every day and when i did it was for no more than for 2 hours and they want to charge me £313.65 for this peroid and i think it is to much ....does this sound correct .... please help ....thanks

    That's 516 units which isnt same as kWh which is measure they use, that's for 4 months usage. For same period roughly I used 1324 units

    If you are on a two tier price tariff for your gas then it will be about right.

    npower charge most of the higher rate units (4572 per annum) over the winter months.

    There will probably be around 3074kWh charged at the higher price and the remainder on your bill at the lower price.

    I am guessing your total usage came to around 5750kWh for this period.

    Single people don't use massively less energy than a couple, and it has been the coldest winter for thirty years. How well insulated is the property? Did you heat one room or the entire property? What tariff are you on - standard (expensive)? Have you checked whether NPower prices are competitive for your area?
