You used the thanks button on a couple of posts, and haven't thanked at least two professional landlords that took the time to post. When I start a thread I thank everyone even those that I don't agree with. The only exception is if someone is personally abusive in which case they get reported. People on this thread have been blunt but not abusive. Anyway I wish you all the best.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

and haven't thanked at least two professional landlords that took the time to post.
They weren't exactly too sympathetic with the op though ?have you listed these in writing to the LL? If not you can hardly complain! If so, how has he responded? Is this really about wanting to find an excuse to leave before the fixed term is up?did you not ask your landlord to get you some cheap halogen heaters during the period of the repairs ?..i also think that it is now too late to be shouting about repairs -Have you done this IN WRITING? To the LL?
All of the above contain lots of flabbergasted exclamation marks, capitalisations, vaguely accusatory remarks ie 'is this just cos you want to get out of your tenancy' comments, aghast 'hands up at face' comments that the tenant should have known 'somehow' to ask the landlord for other heaters ( that incidentally cost a bloody fortune to run ! ).. and of course that 'shouting for repairs' is too late..when the OP and more importantly his 12 month old baby, have been living in a house with no form of heating apart from an electric shower for 6 weeks !
There's friendly advice in a nice manner. Then there is the above which doesn't sound nice OR friendly. Blunt ? Definately.. but I'd put it more as 'Biased'.. as to how the landlord in this situation is somehow acting within the realms of 'reasonableness' ( quoted a few times too ).
He wouldn't put up with it in his own home I'd bet ! Ok to have a little child living with no heating through no fault of their own, or their parents though eh !
But in view of the replies here, no I wouldn't have hit the 'thanks' button either given the above replies. They just sound heartless and very defensive re the landlords positon as opposed to the OP's one.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
But no-one is asking you to take time to answer FF - we all chose whether or not to do so:)I think part of the problem with this thread is there is a complete lack of smilies!
I find most of the regulars helpful and friendly BUT we do get frustrated when people don't bother to run a search before posting.
Valid pointWe also get frustrated when we ask if someone has written to their landlord and they ignore or evade the question, and we get frustrated when we get half a story.
None of what gets posted up here constitutes "advice" as such - it's different folks' thoughts and suggestions, which may based on professional qualification but may equally be based on hearsay, reading of previous responses in other threads or personal experience of a similar situationDon't forget people are doing this unpaid so sometimes we will knock out punchy, factual responses in order to advise as many people as possible.
FF - you're not usually this prickly. You personally thank people on a regular basis ( even me;)) but just because a poster doesn't hit the Thanks tab doesn't mean that they're not appreciative. Sometimes when people are stressed, these things pass them by.We could equally well complain that you have not thanked most of the people who took the time to give you advice (even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear).
The bottom line is that it's absolutely not "reasonable" to take 6 weeks to sort out a Ts heating in winter, as I posted before.Parts can be ordered promptly over the internet - all it takes is an accurate diagnosis of the problem. If that's not forthcoming from people like Homeserve then the LL should get someone else in to sort the matter or, at the very least, provide the T with temporary heating with help towards any extra costs.0
