Hi everyone, thanks to the people who helped me over the last couple of days with my 'man in the browser' virus thing. I have run loads and loads of scans and they are now all coming back as 'nothing detected' Phew...... hope this means I am in the clear?
The route of the problem could have been this; partner bought a McAfee total protection 3 user disk from ebay about a month ago, could have carried the virus we are thinking??? Quite funny how when I go to contact the seller, he is no longer registered.....................................................
Anyway, have now got rid of McAfee and AVG and have installed Microsoft Security Essentials which somebody recommended earlier. Have run a full scan on this and seems to be ok. Only thing is, it doesnt seem to be covering my email (Microsoft Windows Mail). I dont have the facility to mark emails as spam etc. Is there an add on that I can install onto my MSE or another programme I can run seperately? What does everyone here use? Have looked on the other thread about security that everyone uses and doesnt give me any clues!!!
Cheers

you have a choice of Avast
http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
as it does email scanning ( Avira does not)
if installing this them remove the microsoft oneEx forum ambassador

So you are saying uninstall MSE and Avast will do the whole lot for me? Is this what you use?

It may not be an good for your purpose, but gmail is maitenance free, ok the odd bit of junk commes through and you have to check the spam filter has not syphoned off a legit one.
No more file scaning mse, no more not working throught too large an attachment, no virii, no separate folders:( and no corruption or backing up of files

if your using WLM, youll be using the hotmail service, so theres nothing for you to scan, as it does it all on their end0

I think the modern thinking on email scanning is that it is not necessary these days with modern Anti virus checkers .
I did use Avast but has now switched to MSE and would recommend it as it just runs in the back ground and you can set a scan up each day if you wish and is light on system resources
