I have bought a second hand Dell laptop and would like to do a clean install so it goes back to its original condition without anything on it.

It runs XP but I don't have a disc, not sure if it came with one originally?

How do I dso it please?

Try for recovery disc which is the most easy way.

There may be a recovery partition on the hard drive, have a look to see if it has a D as well as a C drive.

If so you can reinstall the operating from their, whats the model of your Dell laptop?

Hi, thanks for that, not sure what it means but I will check.

The laptop is a Latitude 600, pretty old, but still working. ( Like me!)

Have a look on startup, see if anything appears "Press F11" for recovery for example or on the start bars for a recovery program.

Looking at the documentation for my old D610 it refers to using a disk to reinstall XP.

So have a look on the bottom of your laptop and find the product key and see which version of XP it refers to.
Then you will have to beg borrow or stael an XP installation disk, and use your valid product key with it.

You may be able to restore to factory settings by pressing Ctrl + F11 on bootup.
