Ignoring the recent 18 months of total RPI turmoil (which is it is fair to say is unusual), it is still reasonable to take a view that a time of high current RPI rate is arguably not the best of times to buy. Why? Because it will often represent close to peak with BOE bank rates having already been adjusted

It is not like buying the stock market at peak, not sure what you are saying.

Its exactly like a market, you need to buy when the RPI is low and likely to rise, and sell when the RIP is high and likely to fall.

    Not easy to do though.

They've printed £200B in new money, the £ has slumped making oil much pricier (and everything imported), even if the Tories get in and increase base rate, the RPI includes mortgage costs. As a hedge against stagflation, index-linked makes sense.
  • Hi

Thanks for all the advice. There seemed to be more positive than negative comments so taken the plunge and invested £15k each.

I may consider doing the same in the next issue but may wait a month or so so that I stagger maturity dates.

    Regards

It's pre announced on their website ... quite unusual, I think. (Incidentally, same rates as 19.)

They look like higher rates to me. Its not clear from what's on the website.

I was going to invest in issue 19 tomorrow. But now I don't know whether to wait.[/STRIKE]

Edit. I see my mistake, I was looking at what they call "Grossed up" rates. Very misleading.

    I will invest tomorrow.
