Has anyone had any success in using mylostaccount.org in tracing lost or misplaced money?.
I understand it's a service run by the British Banking Association. You put in the name or names you could have used to open an account, select the banks/bs's were you think you may have had money and they do the searches.
The reason I ask is that I misplaced about £20k last year,. I had been moving money around and simply lost track of the fact that I had 2 bonds not 1 with a particular bank. Anyway I eventually found the paperwork after a week sweating over it, but not before I had sent my query into the above.
I listed 5 banks that I had had money in, and 2 that I still had, just as a control to test the search. I put in every combination of the way I could have used my name, full name, 1st name in initial, included and left out my middle name etc.
By time I got back the 1st of 7 reports, which said I didn't have any funds with them, I already new that, but nothing in there system allowed the search to be stopped. I got back the other 4 reports from banks that new I had no funds with.
The shock however was that the 2 banks I do have money with, 1 in which I have 4 separate accounts advised me I had NO accounts in any of the names I'd given,:mad:.
:T:T Don't quite no what to make of that:(

It was the same standard reply from all accounts which went something like "after extensive searches we have found no accounts in the name of............ or any other name you gave us":eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
