Furniture in house I bought

Hi does anyone know off hand whether the seller of a house is obliged to remove all their stuff? I.e. old furniture and stuff the buyer does not want.

I don't think they have to because I know of plenty of sellers who've left places full of junk (including an old fridge crawling with maggots) but you really should.
Why is it your buyer's responsibility to deal with your stuff?0 -
In theory, unless it was agreed between purchaser and vendor beforehand that things would be left behind, yes the seller should clear all their stuff out. You could try to pursue the vendor for the cost of getting rid of their junk but to be honest that will probably get you nowhere and just cause you expense and hassle.
Best thing is probably just to curse the vendor mightily and then freecycle what you can and junk the rest. Your local council should be able to collect large rubbish items for a fee.0 -
Nowadays aren't there forms a seller has to complete as part of the conveyancing process to indicate what they intend to leave and what they intend to take ?
If they've left a load of stuff that they didn't say they were going to, and you don't want, then I'd ask the solicitor who dealt with your purchase to get in touch with their solicitor saying that you want them to remove it within a certain number of days, and if they don't you will be arranging for it to be disposed of yourself and will be sending them the bill (via the small claims court if necessary). Incldue a list of the items so they know exactly what's involved.0 -
