Question regarding building at the bottom of the garden

Caravan would certainly be simplest, cheapest. 12-18 months there, eating in the main house etc. should be able to save a wedge.0

Surely its cheaper to move out and rent somewhere yourself?0

Does anyone know any good places for me to look at for log cabins for the garden to live in? thanksProud dad to Darcy.....0

You're creating a new dwelling and it will require planning permission - it is not ancillary to the main dwelling as it is fully self contained and that goes beyond the realms of Class E of the GPDO (which allows certain ancillary buildings to be erected as Permitted Development). Often, new dwellings like this are not acceptable as there is not sufficient space for seperate amenity space and parking, together with giving rise to disturbance or overlooking to neighbours, as well as being out of character with the area.
Plus, depending on where you live in Surrey, most is covered by the Green Belt - so unless you're in an urban area not washed over by the Green Belt, then you will find it nigh on impossible to get permission for a new dwelling.0 -
What would be the next best option building wise for us down the bottom of the garden. Is this something I really need to speak to a planning officer about
ThanksProud dad to Darcy.....0 -
as above, thats why the caravan/shed option is best and cheapest.
anything more than that and the full wrath of the PP dept will come down on you.
as been said, a full self contained dwelling (as you envision it) in the rear garden is virtually impossible.Get some gorm.0 -
Not to mention neighbours whingeing.
We have 450 ft long garden but as soon as we started putting up a small garden shed down there, neighbours were knocking asking what we were up to!!!
Id have the thought the cost of the building, the fittings, the water, sewage and utilities to the building would far outweigh the cost of you and your wife renting privately.0 -
Yes, I would seek some informal advice from the Council (although they may charge).andystephens wrote: »What would be the next best option building wise for us down the bottom of the garden. Is this something I really need to speak to a planning officer about
Thanks
My earlier comments apply to any self contained structure in the garden - doesn't matter if it's a caravan, log cabin, tent or brick building - it's the use of the land for a new dwelling that requires planning permission as well as any operational development (building work) in the case of a log cabin or brick building.0
