Long MP3 track splitting software help?

Hi,
I have loads of long MP3 tracks - radio shows like Pete Tong recorded off the radio. These shows are 2 hours long. I was wondering if there was any software available that could cut these shows up - easily - into say 10 minute portions?

Even better would be some software that could automatically detect where the music was and not the speaking.

I would really like the software to be as quick and easy as possible - I have a lot of shows to split.

Also if anyone knows of any automatic normallising ./ clean up software?

I am after free software in the first instance. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

I use mp3DirectCut as well, but it won't necessarily do everything you want. You can divide the recording into handy sized chunks of your choosing, but it won't detect where music stops and speaking starts, and I'm not aware of any software which does this.

You can get it to detect gaps in the sound, and can specify the length of gap necessary to create a split but if the talking carries on as the music finishes without a break it won't work. If you have patience you can scan through the recording quite quickly and put splits in manually.

Macsome - free option for Mac
Fission - $32 (£21), but much more feature rich and my preferred choice.

Quicktime Pro can also do it, but it's not as simple to do.

MPEG Audio Scissors (verison 1.4 I think) will also do the job for you.

Pretty basic freeware but I've used it and it works well

Is mp3DirectCut free? Just seems to go to downloads but always a bit wary of sites like this. Also is there any software that normalises easily?

    Hello

Audacity is one of the best audio editors available and it's FREE

    Download from here:-

    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

    Download the latest BETA version.

It will do all you require including normalisation and detecting breaks in the music. You can set the threshold at which this operates

I've been using this for a few years now

    Regards

    Yes mp3DirectCut is free. It's a great mp3 editor.
It has a normalization function/option built in.
If you want better normalization software use mp3Gain from here:-http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/

Lovin Pete Tong! Just out of interest how far does your collection go back? Have been looking for a recording everywhere from around 1995! Funnily enough have been listening to John Digweed today dated 3/9/95 classic!!
