  • Hi,

I also have a simlar problem i bought my sofa chair and foot stall just before Christmas. i was sold the stain gaurd as well and told my products would be pre treated. After placing a box on the foot stall for less than 5 minutes a small black stain appeared. we followed all the instructions on the warranty and i called them on Tuesday (after bank hol). I was then told that I wasn't protected as I wasn't sure what the stain was. I asked what I was covered for as this hadn't been disclosed when the policy was taken out and she said blood and sick!? She then proceeded to tell me I should remove the cover and put it in the washing machine I mean it's a built in unit what planet was she from? The service I recieved was appalling it ended with her telling me that she was right and trying to score points whilst reading the T&C's I was appalled by her behaviour and then to top it off she tried to refer me to the sales department so i could buy a new foot stall ARAGH! After reading this I will be complaining to the head office!!!

Have any others got similar issues?

Ive just bought a sofa with the 5 year stain cover. Ive read the terms on the back and nowhere does it say it is protected by any spray etc - merely its an insurance product.

Ive contacted DFS to cancel it - but the sales person insists its protected with something to help prevent stains in the first place. Im sure he is lying - anyone any further info?
  • i had my sofa delivered in jan, 2 weeks after del my 1yr old spilt water in it, that absorbed straight in....i rang dfs, asked them why it did not sit on top to be blotted.....got told that the treatment only lasts for a week max because as you sit on it it rubs off the spray! i guess im one of the lucky ones, i have a brown chenille sofa so the stains dont show! still not happy that i have paid for the insurance and spray for nothing really!
    is officially a GLEEK

had my DFS sofa "stain protected" and it certainly worked on the 1st night, when my cat decided she wasnt a fan and peed on the arm! As promised it just ran off and no damage was done. Have had it about 3 months now.

However after reading these posts i just dripped a tiny amount of water on one arm (of the sofa :) ) and it sunk straight in, so am guessing this protection doesnt last for long.

p.s my sofas also chenille and it was 100% definately sprayed as it stunk of chemicals when it arrived!
  • You can get Scotchgard online which you can spray on your sofa, cushions, carpet etc etc which has the same effect.

Its about £4.99 for 400ml. Worth investing in I think. I'm just about to buy my sofa from DFS and won't be getting any insurance, PPI or anything. Just going to use the Scotchgard from online on everything in my home.....I'll end up slipping and breaking my neck, I'm sure :P

i have just seem a sofa in dfs and was going in tomorrow to buy it and with all the protection added (which i was told aboutr today by the sales person), Now, after reading all these posts i just don't know what to do!
  • hi katie symonds, the sofa is a leather base with zip on chenile cushions :0)

ok so what i ended up doing was contacting the financial ombusman regarding the stain protection as its an insurance policy
they ask what can be done to put it right, i asked for either
    a full refund of sofa
compensation towards purchasing a new one
or my sofa to be cleaned and sprayed

once the ombusman got in touch with DFS they were straight on the phone, offered me a refund of the policy.....i checked this meant the policy would no longer exist....and i was correct, so i asked why would i do this i would get ny £152 back but be left with a £2500 sofa with no protection that i wouldnt have even bought had i known

as people have quite rightly pointed out there is no documentation that proves there is a spray involved, definatley mis-selling

so declined offer said i was willing to lose my case

DFS rang me a week or so later to see if i had reconsidered, and i said no, they asked what i wanted
i repeated my offers, they said cushions cannot be cleaned and sprayed as chenile cannot be sprayed, so i said refund, compo or full set of new cushions so i can replace them when policy runs out and sofa is really stained

they got back to be a week later said they were willing to replace all cushions
they are being delivered tomorrow, lets hope all ok!
i keep the policy has another 18months to run!

i would recommend you all go to finicial ombusman and dfs will have to stop mis-selling this insurance, but it will also make them want to resolve quickly!

So you paid £152, they came out at least 4 times over 3 years to clean your sofa, and then you demanded compensation to the tune of a new £2500 sofa?

It's no wonder everything in the UK costs so much...

You only need to do a bit of research on the internet to see what a cr*p company DFS are, what do people expect when they buy from them, they sell rubbish at silly prices and their customer service is rubbish to match the furniture.

    there was no demanding involved
what i wanted was my sofa treated as thats the policy they sold me
but they cant do that apparently
wouldnt need cleaning if it had been treated...or at least thats what they claim when they sell the policy
its not dfs that do the cleaning
