An interesting thread - I'm always trying to replicate fast food at home.
Does anyone know where I can buy the sort of gerkins used in places like Maccy D's and BK? The ones which you can buy in the supermarkets just aren't the same at all.

The Marks and Spencers fresh ones are pretty good. They have their savers type ones that are 99p for 2 and are spot on. They also have their slightly more expensive ones that are on offer at £5 for 8 and they are good also.0

I think the BK burgers taste nice because they're flame grilled, maybe wait until theres a nice day and bung some burgers on the barbecue
yes, i can't wait for the weather to hot up so i can get the barbie going, so that'll be best option for me.. plus, i think i might experiment with various recipes. atm, i'll have to settle for my griddle pan to give me the nearest replication of the char-marks on the burger. i'm not sure if it's the quality of the beef mince that i've tried it with (fresh and lean from the normal range of any s/market). do you think it'll be extravagant to try steak mince??

You really don't need any binding agents, as the beef, once blitzed, sticks together brilliantly, especially if baking in the oven.
This works for me, too. A couple of other points.
Don't buy lean beef - you need a bit of (natural) fat/marbling in the meat to keep it moist. Skirt is a thrifty cut and excellent for burgers.
Don't be too hasty to turn the burger over, when cooking otherwise it'll break up. Think in terms of 75% of the cooking time on side one, before you turn it over.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

You beat me to to it!:D My mum seems to love these burgers and will happily ditch her weight watchers programme to munch on these (and she's supposed to be a leader!).
I've not had a burger king whopper for about 15 years now but Quorn have just bought out a new burger which so far I've only seen in Sainsburys and is on offer at the moment, save 25% or something. Think its about £1.50 for two, tastes great to me, quite dense in texture, nice taste and only 100kcals.0 -
the op wanted a shop bought burger - why not try some of your local butchers shops? many of these now offer burgers made on the premises. for people like me who make thier own they are a bit pricey - but compared to the cost of a BK or McD they are a bargain! and you are bound to find at least one local butchers who sell burgers to your taste.0

found some at the meat counter of Waitrose. they were 99p for Angus Beef Burgers.. mmh, the were delish!
