I just searched BT Phonebook online and was shocked to find my name, phone number and exact address on it, accessible to anybody whether my friend or enemy. If I handed my bank debit card to a waiter in a restaurant, my bank account number, sort code & my name is available to him and if he is a bad guy then he can easily do online search on the Phonebook and gain my full address and phone number. The bad guy now has access to my address, phone number, bank account no, sort code. He can then play with my ID and create a new profile. Think about the typical security questions you are asked when accessing sensitive accounts, re-setting passwords etc….”Can you confirm the first line of your address?”…”What’s you post code?”…What is your phone no?......
I called BT to make my phone number ex-directory, they told me that my name will not be removed until the next update of the directory which could take many months. I don't understand why it should take months to delete a name from a digital database???

What planet have you been living on. Telephone directories have been around in paper form for decades, probably as far back as 1920s. Most large town libraries have phonebooks for whole country. Postcodes can be looked up online and PO did publish paper postcode directories. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

What we need is a lot more people to go ex-directory.
Lets get those directories down to a managable size.
