Would you accept a return?

I've just had someone email me to ask if I would accept a return as something she bought from me doesn't fit. I would be happy to refund the money for the item but the postage was more than the actual item. I'm a private seller just getting rid of my own stuff that I don't wear or use to pay the bills. If I refund the postage I'll be out of pocket, by a fiver, not a huge amount to some but it is to me. Should I refund postage or suggest that she would be better off selling it on herself?

I've bought items from ebay in the past that either didn't fit properly or I just didn't like that much when they actually arrived but I would never have dreamed of asking for a refund. Think you should suggest she sells it on herself. I think it's unfair that you should be out of pocket just because it doesn't fit her.0

Why would you be out of pocket with the postage.?The buyer paid the Original postage when they bought the item. I would accept as they will pay return postage and ask them for a mutual cancellation for your fees back. You then look like a helpful seller.0

I've done the same & just put it back on ebay if it's no good for me.
The item was only £1.99 so not really much point in them sending it back.
I will say that she can send it back & I will refund but also suggest that she ebays it herself to save on the postage.
Thank you0 -
as goodwill I would tell her to return at her own expense but only refund cost of item, not the cost of you sending it to her.0

Because presumably the buyer is asking for a full refund of item inc original postage. Why would you be out of pocket with the postage.?The buyer paid the Original postage when they bought the item. I would accept as they will pay return postage and ask them for a mutual cancellation for your fees back. You then look like a helpful seller. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
