I just bought cheap blackout material and hung it under the curtain rail and removed it during the day, it was on hooks and completely covered the whole window on the inside and not just the blind because the light got in round the sides with a normal blackout blind.

My son was five before he knew that you go to bed in the daylight in the summer, it cut out so much light and the fabric has been recycled a few times since.

You must cover the whole of the window inside the walls to cut out light, blinds dont cut it all out.
