Problem with Lawyer on House Sale

Help - please. I live in scotland so this might be different for england and wales. My lawyer seems to be a bit laid back - as far as i was aware i had sold my house on 14 jan 05. The deal was set and done in mid November so there appeared to be plenty of time for the lawyers to get their whack.
Well as of today still no sign of money changing hands and i have moved out the day prior to what i thought was the day i get paid.
I spoke to my lawyer last monday and with much sucking of the teeth i got told these things take time - and then told me he couldn't forecast when i get my money.
Is this the right way to go ahead or am i just impatient.
What can i do to gee him, my lawyer, up or is it best to keep quiet?
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Oh and what exactly do lawyers get paid for? when doing the conveyancing?

I have studied conveyacing and it can be a lengthy process. It may seem to you that it is simple but believe me a conveyancing department is a busy place. All my views are just that and do not constitute legal advice in any way, shape or form.£2.00 savers club - £20.00 saved and banked (got a £2.00 pig and not counted the rest)Joined Store Cupboard Challenge]0

Thanks for that but surely if i have been given a day for the sale of my house - i should expect payment or even at the least a call to tell me that there are some problems. But every time i phone my lawyer all i get is "well it does take some time for these things". That is not a good way to do business - I haven't had many dealings with lawyers but this can not be the norm. You cant take the trousers off an elephant!0

A real sting in the tail - just heard that the purchaser has been trying to sell my house prior to him actually paying for it. Lousy lawyer suggested putting the house back on the market - left him on the phone after i barraged him with 4 letter words. Just about calmed down now - problem is i sold all the contents of my house in expectation of a sale (14 Jan 05).
Does anybody know what my rights are?You cant take the trousers off an elephant!0 -
I know that in Scotland when the offer is accepted and an entry date set that should in fact be the day that you get your money, usually nowadays it is a Friday.
However, it would appear that your lawyer has not pushed for the conclusion of this on the due date and has allowed the buyer to renege on the deal.
First thing I would suggest is get a new lawyer as him saying to you these things take time is nonsense. If the offer was made and accepted in November usually the time allowed is four to six weeks and there should be no problem in completing in this timescale.
As to your rights, sorry I don't know but I would consult another lawyer.0 -
Yeah you were right the buyer was trying to flip my property.
Still had problems with my lawyer but i have now contacted the right people to complain and it is relatively easy to complain against a lawyer - i'll stick another post if/when i get a result.
