DVLA - when you've scrapped the car yourself.
Apologies for my first post asking you for help and advice, but trying to juggle and sort out other stuff (aren't we all?) at the same time and therefore losing focus on this matter.
Right, I'll get to the point, basically I scrapped my car a month or so ago and sent off the log book (ticking and signing box 17 and 18 etc.) with a cover note to the DVLA.
So 4 weeks on I still hadn't received an acknowledgment of receipt from them, so phoned the number they'd given and finally spoke to a nice chap who confirmed they'd received my letter and logbook (I'd sent it recorded delivery) and that it was recorded as void and I was no longer responsible for the vehicle. I was/am relieved, but when I asked for a written confirmation of this I was told that there was no need as their system has verified it. I was also asked if my mechanic had given me a certificate of destruction and I said no because I scrapped the car myself.
Having been burnt by the DVLA over another matter before, I'm a little bit concerned that a) they won't send me a written confirmation and b) I was told I didn't need a CoD if scrapping the vehicle myself and to just send off the logbook with a cover letter, is this correct?
Sorry, I know this seems straight forward enough and I've probably over analysed it, but I just wanted to know if I've done everything by the book and whether I should write another letter (with a SAE) asking for a written receipt or just accept the verbal one?
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance,
Chris

I scrapped a car myself and I had no documents at all. I just wrote a letter to the DVLA with the registration number and the date I scrapped it.
They did send a reply thanking me for informing them and confirming that the vehicle was no longer registered to me. IIRC It was months later though.0 -
Thank you Gloomendoom for your reply, I think I will write another letter to the DVLA requesting a written confirmation from them, I'll include a SAE to be on the safe side.
I suppose I was afraid that this action would provoke them in to pursuing the CoD from me, but as I said I'm pretty sure I don't need one if I scrapped the car myself?!
Thanks again, I couldn't find anyone else who'd been in the same position and I know from past experience the DVLA will probably deny I ever contacted them so I shall go with my instincts and get a receipt.
Cheers,
Chris0
