I am just about to buy a house which has been repossessed There are no gas or electric meters in the house Anyone tell me whether I have to pay to have meters fitted or if there is a way to avoid this. Previous supplier was Southern Electric for both gas and electric?:):):):)

Are you sure? Don't see how S Electric could have supplied without meters! Not under the floorcoards somewhere?
If not, yes they'll charge you to fit when you apply for supply.0 -
I have understood that meters belong to the energy suppliers, they are there for their benefit so they know how much to charge. I have just had my meter replaced, no charge involved. regards bri..0

If the supply has been cut off you may need to pay for reconnection; if prepay meters have been installed you may have to pay to return to credit meters. Never heard of a property not having any meters, how was Southern Electric charging the previous occupants?? No offence but that scenario sounds highly implausible.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Unless the disgruntled repossessees took the meters with them to sell as scrap!0

 I have obviously lived a sheltered life, I know you can sell copper piping but not meters ... I would assume the house is rather dangerous/ possibly not mortgageable in that situation? Shouldn't the scrappy ask questions?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Ive just bought a repo house and Southern Electric are replacing my pre pay meters with normal ones for free. Not sure how that goes if you have none at all though!0
