Hello
I have a windowsill full of seeds, all sprouting nicely. I have chilli's and tomatos which I thought (being a novice) I would have difficulty with. The chilli's are coming on brilliantly but the tomatoes are just not growing.
I'm wondering if they're too cold? I thought the chilli's would be the real problem!
Any advice to get these much anticipated seedings to germinate happily would be fab, thanks in advance

If your chillies can germinate then it's not too cold.

How much are you watering them? did you sow them at the right depth?
Never had a tomato not germinate before so this is fascinating

My tom seeds aren't doing much either, but i think it is quite cold on my window ledge so that may be why. Hopefully some one with more knowledge will be along to respond further.
ETA, mine have germinated, they just seem to be growing VERY slowly.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I'm watering them every day, they're never too dry. I haven't burried them very well, just under the surface.0 -

Do they honestly need watering everyday? Is the soils surface dry?
Stick them in a poly bag & bung in your airing cupboard, if you have one. Keep an eye on them or they will get very drawn if you forget them & they germinate in the darknessWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
Thank you, I'm off to do just that - and check they actually need watering, not just because I think I should.

Well I don't believe it!
2 out of the 6 seeds have sprouted slightly
Should I take them out of the airing cupboard now? Also the polythene has condensation on the underside... is this ok?
Thank you for 'holding my hand' through this.0 -
The condensation means you are keeping things damp which helps the germination, trouble is once they sprout you have to watch the dampness doesn't cause them to rot.
I would move them to a sunny window sill now so they can get some light. May be worth keeping the polythene on for a few days more to see if any more seeds sprout. Although I have to say some of mine didn't germinate very well at first, but then a warm window sill and being uncovered seemed to bring a few more up.
Just been potting some on today.
This growing lark in V addictive lol.
