I don't know if it's different England but in Scotland if you get kinship carers allowance, you don't get child tax credit.

You are not entitled to child benefit or child tax credit. You are however entitled to working tax credit, as the allowance you receive is not payment for you but allowance for your grandchild and also you are entitled to housing benefit and CT benefit. When you fill the forms in state that you are working over 30 hours per week as a foster carer - (you will have been assessed under reg 38 of fostering rules), but have no income from this. You do not have parental responsibility, what orders are on your grandchild? If it is an Interim Care Order the PR is shared with the parents and local authority and if a Full Care Order then the local authority have PR. Are there any plans for reunification with parents? What are the long term plans?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Well I will call up the tax credits and have a word. I havent received any child benefit anyway. I get conflicting advise even from the professionals.
I will call up child benefits and tell them the change anyway. thanks.
We dont seem to have much in writing at all.
Twin1 really wants to have her daughter back now. I think she has realised the enormaty of it all. I am hoping to work towards her going back as I am unwell too.
I seem to have come by my DGD by default really. There was never a protection order or anything like it. One minute she didnt even have a social worker the next becuase of her twin sister she did. Then after only 2 visits the woman decided to uplift DGD and bring her here, (then she went on maternity leave).
I am hoping that we can get a better review and sort things out. but I have had so much on my plate with the other twin and trying to get her to keep her chldren that I am unable to fight the system as much as i would like.
I really need to get a grip on all the paperwork, (we havent got!) and sort things out properly. Get a solicitor for myself as well as my daughter.

I'm sorry I'm a little confused with the mention of twins - who is a twin 2 year old or your daughter.
    what are the issues
    ?
Has this been to court or is it a voluntary arangment? A social worker has no authority to remove a child without either the police or a court order.

Thanks for the link! I am not very good at those. Will save me a lot of writing!
But am not sure its too much reading for some!

There are a few issues that were done incorrectly. Which is why they are running around like headless chickens in the legal department. But this thread was just to find out what I could expect and what I was entitled too. For one DGD.
the mum is a twin. just to confirm.

You are being paid an allowance by sservices which make your Gd "looked after" This means you cant claim child benefit or tax credits. If they asked you to take a more permanant role you would get CB and TC with a small amount of money from them (poss) but its usually means tested.
Be very carefull if it transpires GD cant return home. Get everything promised in writing and see if you can research on grandparents rights website as you could easily find your quite good payment that you receive now plummet to just £18 child benefit. If you say you will take her they usually cant get out of the door fast enough!

My wife and I are kinship carers for our 3 grandchildren, and we were not allowed to take child benefit or tax credits, jus the carers allowance from the social services. We are in Wales if that makes a difference.

    Hi,

I'm up to page 73:eek: To say a few issues have been done incorrectly must be the understatement of the year!! As far as I can see they moved your GD with no authority, no consent and no order. They then offered you no support financially or otherwise, no information and don't seem to have even made their minimum statutory visits.

I so wish I had seen this thread ages ago and been able to offer you some better support and advice. Oh well another 30+ pages to go.
