That's interesting, thank you.
I eat a lot of tomatoes and tomato based sauces. Don't smoke though

I don't agree with everything, but; a lot of it worked for me.
Do you recognise any of your own 'triggers' Pipkin? (Mine coffee, alcohol etc). I've cut them out totally (also decided a good time to go veggie).
I started 1st March and as of today I've lost 7lbs, but that was not the main aim. I've read about the tomatoe thing; it applies to all the nightshade veggies, but as I adore pasta, I've just limited them.
I feel better, but I'm also trying to walk a little almost every day so its a long term thing.
I hadn't thought of the association between arthritis and diet until my friend mentioned it. The hospital, as of yet, haven't mentioned any connection and are going down the route of controlling the pain with medication, but if there's anything I can do to ease the symptoms, I will look at it
I'm trying to walk a bit, but, because my hips are affected as well now, every step I take brings pain. I also walk with sticks or use a chair, so when I do walk, it causes pain in my hands, wrists ect along with the pain in my hips, so it seems like an uphill struggle right now
It does make sense though, because the less I am able to do, the more my weight creeps up, which means the more pain I get because of the extra pressure on my spine and hips. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Its catch 22 isn't it, you can't move so the weight goes up, makes it very hard to get it off because you are not moving.:( I asked about the diet at the hospital too, they said anything that helps has to be a good thing. Also have some very passive exercises. I asked what was best and they said walking, even if you just start off up and down the driveway. I had though of swimming, but they said water gives you a false security & people tend to 'overdo' it.
I mentioned on another thread I had some side effects from the meds. Last time I had a few sips of wine (literally) my arms and face went bright red & so itchy I scratched them till they bled (not a good look really) so I cut them out completely. (Ditto coffee - I was as high as a kite one morrning & couldn't work it out for ages). Himself thought this was hilarious. Stuff the meow meow hit the Nescafe.
Meat is just a personal choice, but; all in all it seems to be working (maybe because its being proactive for a change) but hey ho I'm not complaining.
I hate blooming arthritis, back in the old days I was size 8/10 and used to go running (possibly not the best thing to have done, but who knew then). These things do matter to women, it eats away at your self esteem.
I know it could be regarded as 'cranky' but what is worse - sitting on your bum doing nothing to help yourself - or just trying something new, you never know until you do!
Ps - I'm not suggesting anyone is sitting on their bum its a figure of speech. (but I did thats why its sooooo big).0 -
Good post mousey.
I don't like the weight gain, and there has been a significant increase in the last 18 months, since my health went downhill quite rapidly
I've had a few reiki sessions, but they didn't help.
I'm attending a pain clinic and will be having accupuncture - it's worth a try.
I'm also booked in for a session with a psychologist, which is a bit  because talking won't get rid of the pain, but the consultant has suggested it may help how I deal with the pain??
Yes, anything is worth a try, and I have managed to go on a couple of walks these last few days, but then I fell on Wednesday and that sets me back, so it's like a vicious circle
I hate the chair though, so often struggle to keep on going, rather than use it.There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
I have recently started Bowen therapy and found it really useful but one thing he said to me was milk and dairy, especially milk as i drink around 4 pints a day, milk turns to acid in the body causing inflammation. Sadly it is the only thing I drink so have to be honest and say I have not cut down despite severe pain but if you can do without it then it is definately worth a try, he advised the most anyone should drink is 1 pint a day MAX,Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I've cut out milk/dairy and caffeine and I don't eat any processed sugar or red meat. I can't honestly say if its improved my health but I feel a lot more pious!!One life.0
