Catalogue con

I ordered goods in January from a well known catalogue company. I also asked that one of the payments for one of the items to be spread over 3 years (with added interest). However, when I went to make the payments they did not show that I had asked for the payments to be spread over three years. They demanded more money than I had expected and added extra costs. I made the payment over the phone. They said they had a problem with it and that they did not receive the payment. After checking my statement, I found out they had taken the payment. The following month I paid over the phone . They sent me a demand and added £12 late payment charge. They said they did not receive that payment. This was untrue as I had originally spent about 40 minutes on the phone speaking to an advisor and also someone in their Arrears Collections Department, who said they would sort the matter out. This was not true. I have since made arrangements for a standing order to be set up to pay this company as they cannot be trusted. I have also recorded some of the calls I made to them. I have had problems with them a few years ago. I want to know if anyone else has had a similar problem. I would love to hear from you.

    Which catalogue company is it?

That will help other people identify whether their previous problems match yours.

With the late payment charges and excuses im thinking it has got to be one of the shop direct financial catalogues.

When you ordered in jan did you order online or via the phone, did you by chance if you ordered online take a screen shot of the order page or get an email conformation stating that you had opted for your payments to be spread over 3 years.

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't Littlewoods.
There used to be a street named after Chuck Norris, but it was changed because nobody crosses Chuck Norris and lives.
  • If you've got proof that the payment was taken then you should dispute the late payment charges in the strongest possible terms. Do it in writing sending a copy of the page of your bank statement showing the transaction (you can make a photocopy of the page and use a thick black marker to obscure all the other transactions and account balances and then photocopy that). Don't let the shysters get away with it!
  • Thanks for your comments. One of you guessed the catalogue company and one guessed that it was one of the shop direct catalogue companies. They obviously have not got a good reputation. Thanks for your suggestions, I will be taking them on board. Finally, yesterday the company had the cheek to send me a new catalogue and a voucher for £5.
