Entitled to very little??

Hi male aged 54, worked since 1972, Left a job last July. Took Pension early (600 pounds per month) plus lump sum. Two children one still in full time education. Wife earns 900 pounds per month after tax. Get child benefit and CTCredit of 28 pounds per month. Looking for work, decided to apply for JSA, was told wouldnt be worth my while due to pension and paid up for NI, applied for WTC, not entitled.

Anyways, the situation is this, still unemployed, still looking, Lump sum rapidly disappearing, less than 10000 left. Gonna be in trouble soon moneywise

Any Suggestions please

The pension will cancel out any JSA you would receive as anything over £50 per week is deducted from the JSA £ for £.
How many hours does your wife work - the tax credits seem low and are likely to increase this next year given that they work on the previous years income

    No really you shouldnt
  • tbf i have to agree with kim

you wont be entitled to JSA because you have savings over 5000 and because of your wife working

it sucks but they are the rules
  • Any savings below £6k are ignored for means-tested Benefits purposes. Between £6k and £16k there may still be some entitlement, reduced on a sliding scale. Above £16k there will be no entitlement.

However the OP's family income is too high for any means-tested Benefits.

So he will not be entitled to JSA. The family income is deemed as more than enough to live on.
