Howdy computer help guys! Below is a problem from my partner....
I have a custom built computer, ASUS P5NE-SLI motherboard, 8GB DDR2, Intel Quad Core CPU, NVIDIA 8800 GTX graphics. The machine has worked excellently for years, but has recently developed the annoying habit of turning itself off at random times. No error message, no blue screen, just off !
I initially thought it was a PSU problem, so replaced the PSU with a brand new 750W. Problem remains. I`ve checked the fans, and all are working, plus the machine is fitted in a coolermaster case, so I don`t think overheating is an issue. Speedfan reports normal tempratures across the board. I've given the machine a whole new plug and checked sockets.
I did consider a software fault, but the computer will turn off even in the BIOS, so it`s not a Window$ issue.
I`ve even checked all the motherboard jumpers, but the problem persists.
Any ideas anyone? Any feedback is much appreciated

Overheating.....
Memmory or CPU probably.... think about getting some aftermarket cooling for both... and add a couple more case fans, check your cpu and system temps while running a bench test.
Any overclocking?
Check to see if your BIOS settings are correct.......To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
If your motherboard has a display port I would suggest pulling the 8800GTX from your system. Then see if the same problems occur without the graphics card.
The GTX is demanding so it could be a little flakey later in its life but the same could be true of the PSU.0 -
pull all drive cables off the MOBO end !
you've done the CPU
pull all fans other than CPU off at the MOLEX
pull out and then replace the memory & video card
fit a speaker piezo buzzer or cone to the MOBO [ where the hdd light cable plugs in ] pin-out
short the jumpers while the machine is unplugged from the mains, and, while its still unplugged push the reset button for three seconds
Now boot up, catch it in the BIOS, goto the temp section of your BIOS and watch it till it crashes
- does it crash ?
- did it give you a beep code and what were the beeps ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
