We went with the co-op as Barclays were creditors of my husbands, for a loan and barclaycard, and I didn't want to give them anyway of getting something from us!!
Our nearest co-op is miles away, we opened the account over the phone, andany cheques I get I pay in through the local post office, they have been clearing within 3 days on average.
And of course you get to keep internet banking, which I couldn't live without!! Oh and there phone banking is excellent, I have had to call a few times now and each time have found them to be polite and courteous, and have usually ended up having a laugh with them.
Once we are discharged we will be staying with the co-op, I just wish I had found them sooner!0 -
thanks everyone, i think i'll open a coop account just to be safe, other reason i picked barclays was also because i read on hear that some places wont except the coop visa debit. is that still the case?0

Hi VM, thanks to Bat posting this the other day is clears up a few thing about the coop visa card:_
As there are overdraft restrictions on the account this card will only be accepted at retailers who can complete a real time check for funds
Some internet stores and remote or unmanned terminals (such as petrol pay-at pump and parking meters) cannot support this card because their systems are not able to immediatly check if funds are available in your account
Hope this helps

So if the Barclays Visa debit card doesn't do this then surely you could go over drawn? I thought Barclays (and other banks) started replacing their Electron cards with Visa Debits as Visa Debits can now check funds are avilable before processing like Electron use too?ifwisheswerehorses... wrote: »Hi VM, thanks to Bat posting this the other day is clears up a few thing about the visa card:_

Welsh I'm not talking about Barclays, I'm talking about the coop visa card.
Just edited my orignal post and this to clear any confusion x"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

Sorry, I mentioned Barclays as Veronica suggested she choose Barclays over the Coop because of the card issued, what I was trying to figure why doesn't Barclays Debit card have the same problems as the Coop one, as I thought both banks replaced their Electron cards with Visa Debits cards, but only because these new Debit cards did the same things as Electron cards, i.e checking to see the money is in the account before processing the transaction? Besides, wasn't there something about Coop not being recognised as a proper Visa Debit because retailers hadn't updated something in their systems?ifwisheswerehorses... wrote: »Welsh I'm not talking about Barclays, I'm talking about the coop visa card.
