i went bankrupt on monday and spoke to the OR today and he asked which bank account i was going to use or keep (something like that) i said my barclays account as i had opened that for after bankruptcy and he said that was fine. what i forgot to ask was how quickly do they lets my bank accounts know im bankrupt? i've read they have like 6 weeks to tell creditors but is it quicker with banks accounts? how do i know if the account is ok? i've heard some say that barclays took their internet banking once they went bankrupt so i'm scared to call them and ask as it might flag it up that it hasn't been taken away (i just logged in fine). one more question, barclaycard was one of my creditors and im a little scared to pay money in to my account in case barclarycard take it. i know they are not allowed to do that one i;m bankcrupt, but if they did, how long would it take for the OR to make them put it back?

http://www.insolvency.gov.uk/freedomofinformation/technical/TechnicalManual/Ch1-12/Chapter4/part3/part3.htmThe official receiver should notify any banks where the bankrupt held an account as soon as practically possible (and certainly within five working days of the bankruptcy order) and should do so as soon as he/she obtains the bank's full address and account numbers.

I wouldn't trust them not to all the same.
Is Barclays your only option?
If it is, then I would avoid paying funds in until you are sure that they are aware of the BR. Even then I would be a bit hesitant.
Maybe you could take a copy of your BR order to your branch with a covering letter stating that they are not allowed to appropriate funds from that account. Not sure if that would do much good, but you never know.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Veronica if you are worried would it be an option to open a Cashminder one withthe Co-op?
I think I might have the same problem but the other way round I have a Cashminder but if I go BR Co-op will be one of my creditors as I have a Visa card so I am thinking of opening a Barclays one.....
So much to think about.....
Good luck

In theory you should be able to get it back.
In practice, I'm not sure I would like to test that theory. :undecided

I guess i could open a coop account, i went with barclays as we don't have a coop near where i live. plus i also have already transfered over some direct debits and told work so that my pay goes into the barclays one.In theory you should be able to get it back.

We don`t have Coop near us but you can use the PO to pay anything in. The Coop also moved all of my DD`s and SO`s over automatically, all I had to do was sign a form giving them permission to do this.:pB&SC No. 298

I know it is a pain changing it all over, but in reality it doesn't take up that much time (I have had to change my DD/SO 3 times in the last 6 months and all done quickly and hassle free)
Also Co-op have on line banking and as Dojo says you can use the Post Office too.
Good luck
