No thats not correct !!!
so how does it get treated by acquiring banks in the UK? and what about abroad?
As I recall, Solo cards functioned as if they were Maestro when used overseas (and you could hence send your account overdrawn unlike in the UK), is it the same with these Blue Visa Debit cards? can they be successfully authorised offline in foreign countries?0 -
They getting treated like a visa debit card in the UK however every transaction will require authorisation.
The Natwest Blue Visa Debit cards are actually Visa Electronic card such as which barclays and lloyds tsb use.
Christ know hows the transactions would be processed aboard you may want to check the BIN rules for more information it may hold the information you require.

I ask mainly because my girlfriend has had problems using hers with (amongst others) ScotRail, on and off train (and our station's ticket machine has had the cash payment facility removed following vandalism). I also got some rather odd info from a NatWest call centre agent today, who implied that the entire Maestro format was being withdrawn and replaced by Visa Debit not by the bank, but by Maestro itself. I understood that of the two major credit/debit card systems, Maestro was aligned with Mastercard rather than Visa
Maestro is a MaterCard brand, it will be a commercial reason why NatWest are shifting to Visa. Obviously Solo was a Switch brand which was obtained by Mastercard who phased out Solo in favour of their own brand and Switch followed soon after.
Visa Debit 'should' be an online authorised card anyway, but some cards will force an online authorisation and if the terminal does not allow this then the card will fallback to a default state, which is 'decline' on some BIN ranges. Electron in the UK is slowly being replaced by the Visa Debit brand with a full authorisation. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
