If will be taxed as a disibility vehicle so you'll have to go to your local DVLA office to tax it.

I've driven one home without tax before but did sort tax out the same day. I talked to a couple of police officers I know and both said you'd be very unlucky if an officer booked you for it - but no guarantees.

Download a V10, fill it in and take it to a Post Office with your insurance certificate and V5C green slip that the auction house will have given you.

You must do this before driving the car off the premises.

Only if you want to continue taxing it under disability class. For a non-disabled person taxing it as a regular PLG class, it can be done at a post office with a V10 regardless of the car's history.

That isn't what the DVLA website says!

If you only have the New Keeper Supplement and for other tax class changes eg from disabled to private, you’ll need to tax at your nearest DVLA local office. Write the new tax class in section seven of your Registration Certificate. If using a New Keeper Supplement, you’ll also need to fill in a V62 ‘Application for a Vehicle Registration Certificate (V5C)’.

You're quite right, this can't be done at the Post Office, it has to be done at a DVLA office. We bought one at auction last year, it's a very simple process. Most auction houses will deliver the car on the back of a lorry for a small fee to save you breaking the law.

I stand corrected. I was (mis)interpreting the supplementary notes on the V10.

If its been a Motability car it will need the tax class changing. This can only be done at a LVLO. not a PO.
