Late charge for paying 'too early'

I've heard it all now! I got a late charge on my credit card this month (Virgin Atlantic) because I made a payment on the 3rd March when it was due on the 23rd March. When I phoned them, they said they charged me because I paid too early!!! So, that's what you get for trying to be efficient. Anyway, I asked to make a complaint and they quickly offered to refund the money. Bloody cheek!

If you have that attitude you'll get into trouble again and next time they might not refund the money.

It seems you paid before the statement was generated? So the payment went into the previous statement period. Therefore after it was generated you failed to pay by the due date.

If you are on any BT type deal, you might lose it. You must pay between the statement date and the due by date.

Did you pay after you got a new statement?

Or did you pay before? Because that would all make sense... you paid twice within one statement period (completely normal, lots of people do it - they pay the minimum and then a bit extra if they have left over money -then bank cannot read your mind to know that you meant it for next statement) and didn't pay anything in the next statement period...

No minimum payment direct debit in place then?

Yep, paying early before the statement period, even a day before = not paying during the statement period = late payment charge.

I have two Barclaycards - a Visa and a Mastercard.

Last month I accidentally made TWO payments from my Barclays current account to my Mastercard and none to the Visa.

Result: I got a late payment charge on my Visa card.

    Woiuld they refund it? No.

Despite the fact I've been a good customer for 20 years, that resulted in me bringing forward getting rid of my Barclaycards, as they are expensive, so i quite enjoyed telling Barclayard CS to place my cards where the sun doesn't shine! :D

It is weird - so difficult to get new customers these days. For the sake of £12 they are willing to lose someone who might well have stayed with them for another 20 years.
