What paint for fireplace?

Hello, I wondered if anyone could tell me if I needed any special paint (heat resistant)? or like to paint my wooden fire surround?

    what colour were you thinking of painting the wood?

    certainly any water based paint will be ok.
    enamel paint if you want a gloss finish, and if the surround does get hot?

    what sort of fire have you got?
