I didn't sign up

Last year I applied for a Virgin credit card in order to transfer outstanding balances from other cards. However, when the forms arrived for me to sign, I decided against the idea and set about clearing the debt. Virgin sent me another form and followed up with texts asking me to return the form, but I never did.

Will the initial application count against my credit scoring, despite me never signing an agreement and thus never taking (or being rejected for) credit by Virgin?

They will have a credit search against your file, these show on your credit file for one year i think.

I dont think your credit file shows if you have been sucessful or not on your application, they just show a search.

I would not worry about this.

Every credit search leaves a 'footprint' on your credit file. As time passes, the effect of this search is lessened.

My own opinion is that only recent (say in the last 3-4 months) searches have any 'real' effect on your 'score' (as determined by the particular lenders' in-house scoring criteria).

Some people worry that, because they have been searched and no account information is on their file, new lenders will think they have been declined for the account. However, I don't believe that the lenders' scoring systems are as sophisticated as that.

To sum up, I wouldn't be worried at all about searches made 8-9 months ago affecting my 'score' - whether I'd taken the credit or not.

The likelihood is that there will be a footprint on your credit history from the application - given it was over 6 months ago though it will have little effect on over all scoring
