Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Netbooks are smaller (not cheaper really) and more portable for use in cafe, hotels, trains and working on the move. Larger screens are heavy and require more power from the batteries while away from the mains and generally only last several hours before recharging. Choose wisely and you will be fine. Netbooks do not have DVD drives built in to keep weight and power requirements low and have up to 12" screens, so you might want to leave them out of your decision. If you are desk bound a large and heavy weight Sony at 17" (or more) may satisfy you but you need more than £250. So you need to balance price and brand name to find a deal. PcPro magazine is a good place. Look at the recommend A list. Most laptop have more than 1Gb ram (memory) and large hard drive for permanent storage.0

You may want to look at the Dell Outlet too. They sell refurbished and cosmetically damaged machines at lowered prices. We bought our kids netbooks from here at Christmas and they were fantastic. The cosmetic damage was a barely visible scratch on the back.
If you are looking for a new netbook, try Comet. Their range seems to be the biggest and they have some 11" screen models at the £250 mark, including an Acer with HD and 5.1 capability (probably a bit silly in a netbook, but if you watch movies...).In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Sounds like you don't want a netbook then. Have a look at argos clearance on ebay. £250 should bag you a decent spec refurbished / 12 month warranty with 15" screen.0
