Going on Holiday - cats
Comments

i always leave mine at home and have a cat-sitter pop in when i go on holidays. when i had two they were company for each other and seemed just fine upon my return. now i only have one cat - who absolutely gets so stressed at being in catteries - i am unable to go away. but when i get him a friend then i can have a holiday again, leaving them at home together.0

Hopefully your nan can pop in a couple of times to play with the cats, but honestly they will be happier in their own territory and will probably sleep a bit more ( if that is possible!! )
You may want to research local cat sitting services for this or future trips, or I have used www.housecarers.com for many holidays away with great success.
Thanks so much paddypaws!!! Have found a nice australian woman to look after my 3 in November. Going to check refs etc, but all looks good so far. I had loads of replies to my ad too! Everyone fancies a holiday in London lolDFD February 2012

Great news mozzyc!
Yes, I am in London and always have plenty of replies to my ads....it really is a great system when you think about it. Saves someone spending a small fortune on hotel expenses and provides you with a caring house sitter.
You may even get an invite to Aus out of it as I have!
( ps, I always take photo copy of passport/drivers licence and some other ID and issue the contract which the site provides )0 -
haha, i did get an invite out to Texas from one of the people that replied!! Yes, have got hold of a woman called aussiewendy, real name Wendy. She says she hasn't signed a contract before, but i will get one done. And good idea about the passport/drivers licence, will ask her to email me a copy. It is a great system. I had someone local get back to me, but thought i'd rather give someone the opportunity to come over here rather. Thanks again!DFD February 2012

The contract is a chance for you BOTH to be clear about what is expected.
Also for you to provide relevant info about house and pets.
I did have someone drop out at short notice once ( totally genuine reasons ) so keep a back up option to hand.0 -
We always get someone we know to come and stay for a week, 2 weeks etc. If you work, how about asking if any of your colleagues (particularly ones that live at home with parents) fancy a week living in your home.
We have been very lucky and always come home to an immaculate house and happy pets. We always set a few ground rules and let a couple of neighbours know that someone else will be staying but it has worked for us. We would always gauge the personality of the individual to ensure they were responsible. Other alternative has been my mum - as she says cheaper for her to use our electric, hot water and telly!0 -
I'd always go with a cattery for anything more than about 2 nights.
I have 2 persians and I was away for 4 nights and got my mum to come in each day and feed/water & empty litter tray but there seemed to be fur everywhere when I got back!
When I get back tired after a long flight the last thing I want to do is have to start sweeping up fur!0 -
With two people popping in, familiar things around them and each other for company I am sure they will be fine.
I know what you mean about indoor cats being worse than children in terms of going away! I hardly ever go away overnight, but had to twice in January and it was snowy so couldn't rely on friends to pop in. I was stressed the whole time the first overnight!!
I was stressed to hell when we had to leave Lily overnight recently as we were visiting the in-laws who have a dog and we couldn't take her with us. She's really brilliant at travelling though so she's come home with me for easter, the only thing is that she doesn't get on with my parents cats so she has the upstairs to herself, and our cats have the downstairs! haha.
To answer the question, I would say leaving the cats there would be the best option as they have each other for company... I take lily with me as she's the only one and I worry that she will get really lonely.trying to become a moneysaving student0 -
I have just come back from a 4 night break, and left my 3 cats at home, and had a pet sitter come in twice a day to feed them, she's had my dogs once before, so thought she would be fine.
the cats were really happy, ate well, etc.... cost £8 per day usually, but did me a discount as she had the dogs too.
used Blackpool Pet Sitters, a franchise of UK Pet Sitters, couldn't recommend them enough0
