Ok, I'm still using a bottle of ketchup BBE 12/04.
I have a can of curried beans BBE 04/04 that I fully intend to eat.
I have plain flour BBE 09/04 and 11/04 that I'm going to use. Eventually.
No worries with the eggs, I'd be a bit more skeptical with the sausages, but if in doubt I'd fry them until they're black almost all the way through.
I do not recommend anyone else do this as you'll probably die. Fortunately, I seem to be fairly unbreakable. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Why of course not. Your recipe requires self-raising flour (BBE 10/06).If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Just making lentil lasagne with lentils dated best before Dec 2004 will definetely cook them for a long time!!!Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I think we should start a poll....who's got food that's most past its BBE?
I hereby submit my beans BBE 04/04.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Eggs generally keep for a long time. I have been known to cook and eat them when they're six months out of date. Doesn't happen nowadays because I get through eggs quicker, but it didn't do me any harm.
Wouldn't eat sausages even if they were freshly made (ugh), but if they look and smell ok as previously mentioned, shouldn't be a problem.
I've got loads of store cupboard ingredients that are years old; as long as they are not lumpy or smell horrid or have things crawling in them (flour), they will probably get used. Eventually.0 -
i agree, common sense prevails in our house. if it looks good, smells good and there is no mould on it (!) then yes, lets cook it.
Mottos in my house:
"what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" (regarding food and ailments!)
"a little bit of dirt never killed any one" (regarding mess, dirt, mud!)Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0
